Former reality television star Jill Duggar recently shared an emotional message via Instagram that resonated with fans. Duggar, who is married to Derrick Dillard, visited the gravesite of her stillborn daughter, Isla Marie Dillard. In the caption, the former 19 Kids and Counting star opened up about how complicated grief can be.
On February 27, Duggar shared a handful of photos showing her at Isla Marie’s gravesite. The first picture was a selfie that showed the former reality television star sitting on the grass next to her daughter’s gravestone. A vase of pink flowers sat atop the stone.
In the caption, Duggar wrote, “Life is a constant combination of ups and downs, joy and sorrow, roses and thorns.” She added that she was “thankful for God’s faithfulness through all.”
“Anyone who has experienced loss knows that it’s often in the quiet moments when the waves come stronger and we are reminded more of the hole left by a loss,” Duggar shared.
Other photos included in Duggar’s post were casual snapshots taken during ordinary real-life moments. Some showed her in the kitchen at home, and glimpses of her sons could be spotted in a couple of pictures.
Of visiting Isla Marie’s gravesite, Duggar wrote, “I’m so grateful to have a place to go to remember our daughter.”
In April 2024, Duggar and Dillard announced the stillbirth of their “beautiful baby girl.” Duggar was 24 weeks into the pregnancy when they learned “our baby died in utero,” they shared in an Instagram post.
The couple also has three sons. Israel is 10, Samuel is 8, and Frederick is 3. Duggar experienced an additional pregnancy loss in October 2021, to a baby they named River Bliss.
In addition to navigating her ongoing grief over the loss of Isla Marie, Duggar noted she was “So thankful for the recent happy moments too!”
Quite a few of Duggar’s followers who experienced pregnancy losses themselves commented on the Instagram post. Many sent her their prayers.
“Grief is such a weird feeling, eh? It never goes away, but it ebbs and flows, never letting you know when it’s going to hit. Just know there are many people with you grieving your loss as well,” one Instagram user wrote.
Another fan of Duggar’s commented, “Thank you for sharing. My son went to heaven in March 2025 and your continued posts remind me to continue [to] give myself grace. There is joy and there are tears. Til heaven.”
Someone else added, “Hugs friend. Isla is still loved and thought of.”
