Alison Hammond told her co-host Dermot O’Leary that she has a dream job she is trying to pursue

Alison Hammond has carved out an impressive career since shooting to fame on Big Brother in 2002. The 51-year-old has presented programmes ranging from ITV’s This Morning to The Great British Bake Off.

She’s also previously dabbled in acting, with appearances on Doctors and The Dumping Ground. However, Alison revealed to her This Morning colleague Dermot O’Leary on his BBC Radio 2 programme this weekend that there’s one role she desperately wants beyond daytime television that she’ll likely never land.

The television personality, who was announced in January as presenter of Netflix’s Official Bridgerton Podcast, admitted she’d jump at the chance of a cameo in the popular period drama, the Mirror reports. She told Dermot: “I love Bridgerton. It’s so diverse, you see black people in that time…I just love it.”

She continued: “I want to be in it. So I have asked Jess [showrunner Jess Brownell] if I can be in the show, and I asked Shonda [executive producer Shonda Rhimes] but I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

Alison then explained that she “kind of” trained as an actor, attending drama workshops organised by Central Television from the age of 11, but her family lacked the funds to send her to drama school.

That obstacle hasn’t hindered her career long-term, though, and Alison has assembled an impressive portfolio that features, alongside This Morning, numerous other television programmes including For the Love Of Dogs. Alison has appeared in celebrity editions of Coach Trip and MasterChef, as well as The Masked Singer and Celebs Go Dating.

Yet despite her hectic diary, she carved out time to present the Bridgerton podcast.

Alison told Bridgerton fansite Shondaland: “I’ve done a little bit of behind the scenes on the show. And I’ve gotten to see all the extras and how it works. I think I even tried on Queen Charlotte’s wig.”

She reveals that Netflix approached her for the podcast role after discovering she was a devoted Bridgerton fan.

She explained: “They came to me, and it was literally a no-brainer. I’m a busy girl, I had no time, but I made the time. It had to be done. Because I love Bridgerton. I love escapism. I love the magic.”

Should Alison ever land a part in the series, she says her dream character would be Adjoa Andoh’s Lady Danbury.

She said: “I like to watch what’s going on. Observe, see what’s happening. Maybe a little bit of a gossip here and there but nothing too extra.

“I’m the sort of person who probably stays in positions a bit too long and needs to spend a bit more time alone and have more holidays. And I feel like Lady Danbury needs a bit more time to herself.

“I don’t think I’d be like Mrs. Whistledown because I just can’t be bothered. I won’t have the time to do all the writing business. I think I’m more of an observer, which I think Lady Danbury is.

“I mean, she knows what’s going on. She has all the gossip. She’s the one who delivers it. She gives people advice, and that is me.”
