SVU‘s “Corrosive” began with Carisi giving an emotional speech at an event honoring a New York City Judge, Warren Fels, his longtime friend and mentor within the courts. However, while leaving the event, Warren was gunned down by a shooter in a parking garage, despite Carisi’s best efforts to stop it.

Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Sergeant Rollins arrived and connected with their steadfast A.D.A., giving Carisi the news that Warren had made it to the hospital and that the bullets somehow missed any major organs.

“Thanks to me, the guy got shot in the chest, Amanda, I was too damn slow,” Carisi, clearly still shaken over the ordeal, said.

“Stop it, stop,” Rollins said softly as she reached out to Carisi.

While Carisi was flooded with relief that Warren was going into surgery, Benson and Rollins had bad news for him, as well. Hours before the shooting, a woman named Elsa sent a video to the SVU accusing Warren Fels of assault. Benson and Rollins asked Carisi how well he knew the judge, learning that he was one of Carisi’s law professors and mentors. Curious about whether or not Warren was married, Carisi explained that he was a recent widower.

“OK,” Benson and Rollins said simultaneously, ringing alarms for Carisi.

“What was that?” Carisi asked, catching on to their budding investigation and utterly confused by why they’d be questioning his longtime mentor.

“There’s an accusation,” Rollins said gently.

“To SVU?” Carisi asked incredulously. “No, no, no, no…”

“And now there’s an attempt on his life,” Benson added, trying to get Carisi to understand why they were looking at the shooting with that lens.

But Carisi maintained that Fels was a good man. “Listen, I love you both, but he didn’t assault anyone,” Carisi pleaded.

“And I trust your judgment, I trust your perception,” Benson said.

“But, what?” Carisi urged.

“But if we have one motto at SVU…” Benson began.

“Never say never,” Rollins said gravely. Aware of how difficult it was for Carisi to wrap his head around his longtime friend being outed as a monster, Rollins comforted her husband, gently placing her hand on him.

“Look, you two go home,” Benson said, encouraging them to take it easy for the rest of the night. “We’ll figure it out.”

Carisi’s instincts proved to be spot-on on SVU‘s latest

Carisi’s longtime mentor had become the squad’s latest suspect, but they made sure to do their due diligence with Judge Fels. During the investigation, the detectives noticed that Elsa’s testimony seemed rehearsed, a shocking twist that led them to find the shooter. After uncovering surveillance tapes of the victim in a different state on the date of the alleged assault, the SVU realized they had a conspiracy on their hands.

Warren Fels was set up by Robbie Miller, a man who ran a strange cult out of his son Matt’s dormitory. Robbie was abusive toward his son and his colleagues, harboring a culture of resentment against Judge Warren Fels. Robbie and Warren were childhood friends, but after Robbie landed in legal trouble, Warren refused to bail him out. Despite Robbie’s vain efforts to dodge legal accountability, Carisi was able to land a conviction and secure justice for his longtime friend.
