South African seasoned actress and TV presenter Lerato Mvelase is set to host a new show on Power FM after the radio station announced a brand new line-up that features respected voices in the media, political and business spaces.

The station announced on Thursday, February 26, that Mvelase will be among the voices that will be steering the new and refreshed line-up.

“The last addition to the POWER line-up is celebrated and multi-award-winning actress, Lerato Mvelase, who will host ‘POWER Perspective – The Sunday Editio’n on Sundays 9pm to midnight,” the statement read.

Joining Mvelase with their own shows as well are former Member of Parliament and political analyst, Colleen Makhubele; human rights advocate, Sello Hatang; communications expert Kefentse Mkhari; media personality and the late Bob Mabena’s daughter, Clementine Mabena.

Mvelase, who made her debut as an actress in 2003,  is renowned for her decades-long contribution to SA television.

Two years after she made her debut, she landed a lead role in the popular SABC 1 drama series “Home Affairs” as Katlego.

She went on to land roles in numerous and popular SA movies and TV shows such as “Isibaya”, “Soul City”, “For Love and Broken Bones”, “Justice Served”, “Yoh Christmas!”, “Mabaso Family Reunion” and Netflix’s “Marked”, where she landed a lead role.

The 43-year-old also hosted Mzansi Magic’s reality TV show, “Seng’khathele”, which follows couples who want to walk away from their relationships.

Mvelase has received several accolades and nominations throughout her career.

Notably, she received a Safta Best Actress nomination in 2023 for her role in “Justice Served.” 

Before this, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 2020 and received an earlier Best Actress nomination in 2011.

Just recently, the 19th edition of the Saftas announced the nominees list, and Mvelase made it under the category Best Actress in a TV Comedy for her character on “Mabaso Family Reunion.”

The actress’s comment section was flooded with congratulatory messages from fans, friends, family and industry colleagues since the news of her radio gig was announced.

“This is amazing, a huge congratulations to you!” media personality Shonisani Masutha commented.

“Congratulations, big sis,” actor Nkanyiso Makhanya wrote.

“That’s what I’m talking about,” actress Hellen Motsuki added.
