Cardi was first linked to the NFL player in October 2024, two months after filing for divorce from Offset. She later shared that they met through mutual friends. “I thought he was cute,” she told Today. “I was like, ‘Oh, he gotta be mine.'”

Still, Cardi admitted she was nervous to date again after coming out of a seven-year marriage. She recalled Stefon telling her, ‘Let me heal you. Give me a chance for me to heal you,’ and added, “It’s like, ‘Okay.'”

Their relationship moved quickly, with the pair welcoming their first child in November 2025. Engagement speculation also swirled around the Super Bowl in February, but the event would also spark breakup rumors.

Speculation began after Cardi gave a lukewarm response when asked about Stefon, whose team, the New England Patriots, faced off against the Seattle Seahawks. When ESPN asked if she had an “inspiring” message to share with Stefon before the game, Cardi simply said, “Good luck,” and walked away. Later, fans noticed the two had also unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Entertainment Tonight later reported that they “recently broke up,” which Cardi appeared to confirm on Feb. 15 at the Los Angeles stop of her Little Miss Drama tour when she told the audience she wasn’t “fucking” with Stefon.

Now, People has shared a report about what allegedly went down, and according to a source, trust issues may have played a role.

A source said, “Things were getting too heated and complicated. Cardi is very no-nonsense. The second she felt that she couldn’t trust him, she pulled back to focus on her kids, her music, and tour.”

“She needs stability and wants the same for her kids,” the source added of Cardi, who also shares three children — Kulture, 7, Wave, 4, and Blossom, 1 — with Offset.

In addition to the child he shares with Cardi, Stefon has two other children: a 9-year-old daughter named Nova and a 10-month-old daughter Charliee, who Stefon was revealed to be the father of last November through paternity test results.

However, the source said their relationship might not be over for good. “They co-parent and the door is not completely closed. They might reconnect in the future,” the source shared.

ET previously reported that it was also “possible” the two could reunite. For now, the source said, “She is focused on her upcoming tour and family, while figuring out their next steps.”
