Health Update: Health Update: Health and wellness fair for seniors set for March 7 – What Experts Say– What Experts Say.
Muskingum University’s Master of Occupational Therapy program will host its third annual Older Adult Health and Wellness Fair.
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon March 7 in Muskingum’s Caldwell Hall, according to a community announcement. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m.
The fair is free and open to anyone age 65 or older. Family members and caregivers are encouraged to attend. Handicap parking is available, along with an accessible entrance.
The event is designed to provide older adults with tips and strategies for productive aging. Participants will learn about home safety and modifications, fall prevention and adaptive equipment use.
They also will receive information on energy conservation techniques, tips for maintaining physical and cognitive well-being, and methods to improve overall wellness, such as relaxation, mindfulness and sleep health.
Students gain real-world experience
Occupational therapy students will conduct the event as part of their Older Adults Level I Fieldwork course.
“The Master of Occupational Therapy program is excited to provide an event focused on health, wellness, and prevention for community members 65 years and older again this year,” MOT Program Director Dr. Kim Lawler said in the announcement. “Students will promote attendees’ health and well-being by sharing helpful ideas for safely engaging in the daily activities they want or need to do.”
Area Agency on Aging Region 9 will be at the fair to share information about its services.
