Musician Danya Devs, real name Sphelele Dunywa, has expressed his gratitude for his friends and supporters who have shown him support following the passing of his mother.
Taking to Instagram, Danya Devs, best known as the other half of award-winning duo Blaq Diamond, shared that laying his mother to rest was the hardest day of his life and honoured her the only way he knows how to, through song and through dance, the way his mother raised him.
“During the service, Inkosi Mxolisi Buhlebezwe Wilson Xolo reminded me of something that stayed with me: I learned love from my parents. My father loved my mother sincerely and deeply. Even in her final days, he still remembered Valentine’s Day and brought her flowers – just two days before she passed. That kind of love is something I will carry with me forever.”
He also thanked his friends and family who showed up for him and stood, prayed, and lifted with him when he felt weak. The funeral was attended by award-winning musician Sjava and his Blaq Diamond other half, Ndu Browns.
“Thank you. It means more than I can put into words. To my fans and supporters, please bear with me during this time. I am grieving, but I will try my best to continue giving you my art – the way my mother would have wanted. She believed in this journey. She saw a glimpse of what Bayede is becoming.”
Danya Devs’ mother passed away on Monday, February 16. In a statement, it was revealed that the musician was by his mother’s side before her passing.
After his mother’s passing, he took a step back from social media and public appearances in respect for his family and to process the profound loss.
“His mother was the centre of his life – his foundation, his motivation, and his greatest source of strength. Over the years, Danya worked tirelessly to support her, doing everything he could to assist with her medical needs and ensure she was cared for.”
Danya also revealed that in his mother’s honour, he will continue with his scheduled tour and upcoming media appearances.
