The Delhi government has announced plans to enhance its biomedical waste disposal capacity by establishing new treatment facilities, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa revealed on Wednesday. These facilities will aim to manage 46 tonnes of waste per day, addressing the city’s growing pollution concerns.
The decision follows a review meeting with the National Productivity Council, emphasizing the need to tackle pollution through effective waste management. The new facilities will be set up on at least 0.5-acre sites, employing advanced technologies to optimize disposal processes.
Currently handling about 40 tonnes of biomedical waste daily, Delhi’s two existing facilities are set to receive support from the new setups, which will serve three districts each. This initiative prioritizes both the health and environmental implications of waste management.
