According to the New Orleans Police Department, LaBeouf was allegedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive at a business that TMZ first reported was a bar on Royal Street. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the incident took place at R Bar in the Faubourg Marigny, where on Monday evenings, you can get a haircut and a shot for $20; the favorite among locals, which sits on the edge of the city’s French Quarter, is co-owned by Greg Dulli, frontman for indie band The Afghan Whigs.

The incident erupted on Tuesday when an R Bar staff member attempted to eject LaBeouf from the premises; after he was removed from the building, LaBeouf allegedly hit one man several times with closed fists, according to the police.

The actor then left but soon returned to the bar, according to the police report, and at that point, was allegedly acting more aggressively, as a small crowd looked on.

After multiple onlookers attempted to hold him down, LaBeouf was let up, the police report states, “in hopes that he would leave.” But he then allegedly resumed hitting the same man whom he’d punched earlier, according to the police report on the scuffle.

LaBeouf then allegedly punched another person in the nose; he was then held down until police officers arrived at the scene.

LaBeouf was taken to a local hospital for unknown injuries and, upon his release, arrested and charged with two counts of simple battery.

On Tuesday afternoon, TMZ released a video that it says was taken before the police arrived on the scene at R Bar, showing LaBeouf on the ground as someone appears to hit him repeatedly across the face as a group of people tells the actor to “chill” and to “cut that shit out.”

At noon on Tuesday, LaBeouf appeared for a virtual hearing before a judge at the Magistrate Division of Orleans Parish Criminal Court. He was released on his own recognizance by Judge Simone Levine, who made a point that the actor recognize that he must attend future court dates. He is scheduled to return to court on March 19.

The arrest comes after LaBeouf, who recently claimed to be sober and blamed past abusive behavior on alcoholism, went on an extended-weekend bar crawl during Mardi Gras in New Orleans’ Uptown neighborhood, according to employees of various drinking establishments. The actor is of Cajun descent on his father’s side and is a frequent attendee of the city’s famous Mardi Gras celebrations.

He showed up at 24/7 bar Ms Mae’s, around the time the Bacchus super-krewe parade rolled up St. Charles Avenue with thousands of revelers, in what the establishment’s doorman said was an “inebriated” state and “somewhat belligerent.” He was also without cash or a shirt, putting the latter back on when he was told he had to. He had visited the same establishment on Thursday. But on Sunday, the doorman said, “He did the ‘Do you know who I am?’ bit” and begrudingly left without incident after he attempted to “be a celebrity bartender” and was asked to leave.

Another bartender, who waited on him last Thursday, said, “He is terrorizing the city!” He was spotted at at least two other bars in the city and was telling people he was staying at a luxury Airbnb.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter alongside his Henry Johnson director David Mamet in May 2025, LaBeouf reflected on past psychological struggles, referring to himself multiple times as “a narcissist.” When pressed on whether he really thinks that, LaBeouf said, “To get into this field, there’s a certain level of ego — a certain ego sickness that gets you into acting. And now I’m trying to figure out what the healthy version of that looks like.”

Earlier in the same interview, he referred to himself as a “pure actor.”

“When I was young, I didn’t think that I required much help to do what I do,” he explained. “I was completely narcissistic and fearful and had a lack of trust. I’ve been under the tutelage of a lot of dudes who tried to mentor me, but I just didn’t trust them, or didn’t like what they made or whatever.”

In addition to the independently released Henry Johnson, LaBeouf’s recent credits include 2024’s Francis Ford Coppola-directed epic Megalopolis, 2022’s Padre Pio and 2020’s Pieces of a Woman. The former child actor broke out in the Disney Channel series Even Stevens before going on to star in the Transformers series, Disturbia, Eagle Eye and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
