New Delhi, 16 February: The General Body meeting of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (Registered), taking note of the growing politics of hate in the country, sent out a warning that if it is not curbed soon, it will destroy the country. The resolution said that the chief ministers of Assam and Uttarakhand are openly challenging the country’s Constitution and minority rights, but no action is taken against them. Other resolutions were passed regarding Waqf, SIR, condemnation of Israeli hooliganism, welcoming the election results of Bangladesh, and matters related to Vande Mataram.

The General Body meeting was presided over by Mushawarat President Dr. Zafarul-Islam Khan. In this meeting, Working President Professor Muhammad Suleman, Vice President Mufti Ataur Rahman Qasmi, General Secretary Masoom Moradabadi, Working General Secretary Syed Tahseen Ahmad, Treasurer Shamsuz Zoha, and among members Firoz Khan Ghazi Advocate, Abrar Ahmad Makki and Ubaid Iqbal Aasim participated. Several members participated and expressed their views online through zoom.

On this occasion, in a resolution passed regarding SIR, Mushawarat said that for a long time a conspiracy has been going on in the country to delete Muslims’ names from voter registers. After the conspiracy to snatch Muslims’ citizenship through the NRC and the CAA failed, the central government and the Election Commission have resorted to the “Special Revision Campaign” (SIR) and started this work across the whole country. This excerise has been exposed in many places, but despite this, the names of genuine voters are still being deleted and bogus voters are being added. Mushawarat raised its voice against this dangerous act because in this way a problem like Assam’s “D-voters” is being created across the whole country, which will ultimately deprive crores of people of their citizenship. To foil this conspiracy, empowered institutions and human rights activists must take firm political and legal action.

In the resolution related to Vande Mataram, Mushawarat said that making all of its stanzas compulsory is not acceptable for Muslims because in them the land has been called a deity, whereas in the belief of Muslims the only deity is the One God. Therefore, Mushawarat demands that this decision be withdrawn and Muslims’ anxiety be removed. Regarding legislation related to Waqf, Mushawarat said that the central government has promulgated a new law against the wishes of Muslim organizations and scholars. The change in the Waqf law and compulsory registration on a portal within a limited prescribed time, in fact paves the way for misappropriation in Waqf properties. Mushawarat condemns these steps and demands restoration of the previous law. In another resolution, the UGC regulations were supported, whose purpose is to establish social justice in higher educational institutions and to curb caste-based divisive sectarianism.

In the resolutions related to international affairs, Mushawarat condemned Israel’s brutal oppression of the Palestinians. It further said that the countries of the world—and our own country in particular—should stop helping oppressive Israel and ensure that the politicians and military officials responsible for the genocide of the Palestinians are given the punishment they deserve; otherwise the global order will break down and powerful countries will begin to do as they please. In the resolution related to Bangladesh, while welcoming the fair elections there, hope was expressed for improvement in India–Bangladesh relations.
