Organizers had to postpone both the women’s snowboard slopestyle medal event and the freestyle aerials, citing dangerous conditions caused by limited visibility and speed concerns on the steep jump.
In efforts to keep the course safe for competitors, workers manually cleared snow with shovels. Temperatures dropped to -6 Celsius as athletes, including previous champions, completed practice rounds before the postponement. Despite monitoring weather conditions for potential improvement, officials concluded that it was unsafe to proceed.
The uncertainty continues as new dates for the women’s aerials qualifiers and the men’s events remain undecided. Across town, the women’s slopestyle final was also rescheduled. New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott is slated as a favorite for when events resume, facing competition from Japan’s Murase Kokomo.
