Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are leading the tributes to Hollywood legend Robert Duvall, who died “peacefully at home,” at the age of 95.
De Niro and Pacino starring alongside Duvall in the sequel to Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic film The Godfather.
The pair, who rarely issue public statements, offered their tributes after the news of Duvall’s passing broke.
“It was an honour to have worked with Robert Duvall,” Pacino told Variety on Monday.
“He was a born actor, as they say, his connection with it, his understanding and his phenomenal gift will always be remembered. I will miss him.”
De Niro, who also starred alongside the Emmy winner in the crime drama True Confessions, wrote “God bless Bobby. I hope I can live till I’m 95. May he rest in peace” in a statement to Variety
Actor Michael Douglas took to Instagram to offer his condolences, writing that Duvall was “one of the true all-time greats.”

“He was among the most respected actors in our business, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have worked with him on Falling Down many years ago.”
“Sending my deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the Duvall family.”
Duvall’s wife Luciana posted the message on the star’s Facebook page to confirm his passing, writing: “Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time.
“Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.”
Duvall was famed for roles in such films as The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, his Oscar-winning role in Tender Mercies, and the landmark TV miniseries Lonesome Dove.

Jamie Lee Curtis, Adam Sandler and Alec Baldwin also took to social media to pay tribute to the late great.
Sandler called the actor “funny as hell,” adding he was “one of the greatest actors we ever had.”
Baldwin paid tribute to the star in a teary-eyed video posted to Instagram.
“What a great actor, he’s up there with the greats… the world has lost a great actor, the parts he played in films, he was unforgettable, is the word I would use,” he said.
Curtis had a brief message of tribute, writing “The greatest consigliere the screen has ever seen. Bravo, Robert Duvall,” under an old photo of the actor.
