Jacob Elordi is one of Hollywood’s new it boys. He’s been very popular since Euphoria, and for some, since The Kissing Booth, though Elordi would probably not want to be remembered for that. Now an Oscar-nominated actor for Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein, Elordi was already very popular and well-known, and that was before his new turn as Heathcliff in the new Wuthering Heights, opposite Margot Robbie.

But is there a bigger role waiting out there for him? There have been rumors that Elordi could take over the role of James Bond, and right now it seems like the one making the call on that will be Jeff Bezos’s new wife, Lauren Sánchez. Which apparently isn’t exactly good news for the actor.

According to Rob Shuter, “This is Lauren’s call now,” according to one insider. “If she’s not feeling you, it’s done.”

Rumor goes that she isn’t feeling Elordi. “It doesn’t matter how many meetings you take or how loud the internet gets,” a source said. “Lauren decides what Bond looks like — and Jacob isn’t it.” Maybe she just hasn’t watched the new Wuthering Heights?

The reports indicate Sánchez has a very specific vision for the next 007, and Elordi doesn’t fit in with that. “She wants someone who commands a room before he says a word,” another insider said. “Not someone who looks like he’s carrying emotional luggage.” Ouch.

“Once Lauren makes up her mind, the conversation is over,” the gossip columnist also reported. “Buzz doesn’t matter. Awards don’t matter. The decision is already made.”

However, the Daily Mail is reporting otherwise. “No, she’s not picking the next James Bond. And no, she’s not going to be a Bond girl either — except maybe for Halloween,” an insider said. And though the outlet didn’t have much more information about the subject, it did indicate how strange it would be for Sánchez to be involved in such a high-level decision.

Shuter had also previously reported that Bezos wants his wife to be the next Bond girl, so perhaps we should take all of this with a grain of salt. It’s not that Elordi has the James Bond role locked, but he would not be a bad choice. And if he wins an Oscar for Frankenstein, it’s hard to say he wouldn’t be a leading candidate.

But hey, Sánchez might still end up having some say. We don’t know. Right now, there are a lot of different names floating around, and we’re nowhere near the answer. There had been reports that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was a frontrunner. Recently, however, another name has been thrown around: Callum Turner. Some people love the possibility of Elordi taking the role, of course.

One thing against him? He’s not British. And though he would not be the first Australian to take the role of the dapper British spy, perhaps the powers that be would like to stick closer to the roots of the character on this one? We will have to wait and see. And, once we have an answer, perhaps that will give us a clue as to where the decision came from.
