Saint Lucia
– The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Nutrition informs the public, and in particularly residents served by the Grand Riviere, La Guerre, Ti Rocher (Micoud), Etangs, Fond St. Jacques, Jacmel, and La Croix Maingot Wellness Centres, that these facilities will be temporarily closed as of Monday February 16, 2026 to facilitate essential rehabilitation works under the SMART Initiative funded by the OECS Regional Health Project.
We recognize that wellness centres are more than physical structures — they are trusted community spaces where families receive care, guidance, and reassurance. The decision to temporarily close these facilities was not taken lightly. However, these improvements are necessary to ensure that the centres reopen stronger, safer, and better equipped to serve their communities for years to come.
The rehabilitation works form part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to modernize Saint Lucia’s primary health care infrastructure. Through the OECS Regional Health Project SMART initiative, upgrades will focus on strengthening structural integrity, improving infection prevention and control standards, enhancing accessibility for all users, increasing operational efficiency, and incorporating climate-resilient features to reduce vulnerability to extreme weather events.
These investments are critical to safeguarding service continuity, improving patient experience, and advancing the Government’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage. By strengthening our primary care facilities, we are building a health system that is more responsive, resilient, and people-centred.
The Ministry of Health acknowledges that the temporary closure of these facilities may cause some inconvenience to residents. We assure the public that arrangements have been made to ensure continued access to essential health services during the rehabilitation period. Details regarding service redirection and access points will be communicated in a subsequent public broadcast.
We deeply appreciate the patience, understanding, and cooperation of residents during this period of transition. We understand that these Community Wellness Centres are part of daily life in our communities, and any disruption can be challenging. Your support allows us to carry out these necessary improvements that will ultimately provide safer, stronger, and more comfortable spaces for you and your families. Together, we are investing in a healthier, more resilient future for the people of Saint Lucia.
