The main challenges for stylists sending their clients to New York Fashion Week will be the weather this year, predicts an expert, who noted a few other trends to expect

New York Fashion Week is here, and celebrities are sure to be roaming the city streets.

While the shows will focus more on looks to expect in the Spring and Summer, the attendees of the fashion shows must brave the chilling weather. After all, New York City is still dotted with mountains of unmelted snow. That massive component of the city-life will be obvious in celebrity looks, costume designer Roger Teng told the Mirror US. Stylists are always trying to guess the best trends.

“NYFW often reflects the rhythms of the city, and with fluctuating temperatures, layering becomes less of a trend and more of a necessity this season. That practicality creates an interesting challenge for celebrities and stylists: how to stay warm while making a visual statement,” he explained.

Roger predicted that sweaters, tailored coats, and layering combinations will undoubtedly reign supreme this year.

However, clothes are about more than practicality, especially at NYFW. Their visual aesthetic can tell a story of its own, the expert explained. Roger noted that he’s looking forward to see how “traditional silhouettes get reworked through proportion and texture” as stylists lean into the concept of portraying a character and narrative.

Plus, 2026 continues to be the year of nostalgia. He advised that might just come up in the styling choices, especially through textures and colors that can “evoke a sense of memory.” He added, “These choices become a form of storytelling, letting celebrities communicate their identity and mood through what they wear.”

Roger Teng is a costume designer hailing from Taipei, Taiwan, immigrating to the United States in 2013. The xpert works in theater, musicals, and films.

Fashion shows are notably a celebrity hot spot, and the Big Apple welcomes them happily. For example, in September 2025, some Love Island USA stars were spotted and generated quite a bit of buzz. Iris Kendall and TJ Palma appeared to rekindle their romance by attending the the Luar fashion on September 15.

Not to mention some stylists have become total stars in their own rite. Law Roach, who famously styles Zendaya and Ariana Grande, nearly always makes some sort of appearance. He was seen with supermodel Camila Araujo at the the exclusive WGACA x Law Roach fashion installation in Manhattan in September.

And, of course, no one can forget when Lauren Sanchez stunned in the fall. She showed off her curves at the Kering Foundation 4th Annual Caring For Women Dinner. Also on the red carpet were stars including Dakota Johnson, Salma Hayek, and Jessica Chastain.
