Sian Welby was among the names tipped to step into Holly Willoughby’s shoes on This Morning, and now she’s reportedly being eyed up to present Strictly Come Dancing.

While Irish viewers may not be familiar with her, Sian, 39, is a ‘rising star’ in the UK and has already made regular appearances as a reporter on This Morning.

So, what else do we know about Sian?

Career

For her day job, the radio presenter from Nottingham co-hosts Capital Breakfast alongside Jordan North and Chris Stark. She presented her own show on Heart radio from 2017 until she moved to Capital FM in 2020.

Sian has also appeared on This Morning as a showbiz reporter and presents segments including ‘Sian’s What To Watch List’, where she gives a roundup of her best television and movie picks.

She has over 308k followers on Instagram and is well-known for being the face of the BBC One social channels where she was the face of their Snapchat account.

Sian’s radio producer fiancé

Sian is currently in the midst of wedding planning after getting engaged to her radio producer boyfriend, Jake Beckett, in August 2023. She revealed at the time that she wasn’t expecting the proposal at all and ‘didn’t think it mattered’ until he popped the question.

Sharing a selfie showing off the engagement ring, Sian wrote: ‘On Tuesday I thought we were just going on a boat trip!! Genuinely didn’t see this coming. For once, I am totally speechless.

‘I didn’t think it mattered until he asked me, and then suddenly it meant everything.’

Growing their family

Sian announced that she and Jake were expecting at the end of February 2024 by sharing several Polaroids, which included pictures of their scans and an excited selfie with the positive pregnancy test.

She also announced the news live on Capital Radio, completely shocking her co-hosts and admitting that she’s not sure how she managed to keep it from them for so long.

‘The stress I’ve gone through trying to pretend not to be drinking,’ she said. ‘The work do, remember when I ordered the same cocktail as you? I ran downstairs, intercepted the order, and asked for one of the cocktails to be a virgin mojito. I wasn’t drinking at all at the Christmas party, I was just loud!’

Sian and Jake welcomed a beautiful baby girl to the world in June 2024, revealing their daughter’s name to be ‘Ruby’.

Presenting on This Morning

Sian was delighted to confirm that she’d be presenting alongside Dermot O’Leary while standing in for Holly on This Morning in January 2024.

‘I’m going to be sitting next to this legend [Dermot] doing This Morning! Very surreal,’ she gushed on Instagram. ‘Obviously excited but also quite nervous!! I have to say the whole team have been incredibly supportive and I know I’m in good hands with Dermot O’Leary – what an incredible opportunity. It hasn’t really sunk in yet.’

She continues to appear on This Morning every now and again. She’s a great addition to the line-up!

Strictly Come Dancing

By all accounts, Sian Welby is being lined up to fill the shoes of Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly as a host on Strictly Come Dancing.

A source told The Sun: ‘Sian might be less well-known than other names linked with Tess and Claudia’s jobs so far. But she’s got everything it takes with one special ingredient — a younger audience, thanks to her job on trendy Capital FM.

‘Her live radio experience means she’s got that off-the-cuff banter that is needed in the Clauditorium down to a tee. And working on This Morning ticks all the TV boxes.’
