Savannah Guthrie and her family members may be making public pleas for the safe return of their mother, Nancy Guthrie, but that doesn’t mean that any of them have been cleared as potential suspects in her disappearance.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on February 1, after she failed to show up to a church service. She was reported missing by her family later that day, and had last been seen the night before when her son-in-law, Tomasso Cioni, dropped her off at her home.
Speaking to Briana Whitney, a true crime reporter for Arizona’s KTVK-TV, Nanos explained that no one had been removed from that list.
While he said they had all given statements and submitted to DNA testing, no one has been cleared, and won’t be until he has reason to.
He also said that he would follow the evidence in whatever direction it potentially led, which was what led to the brief detainment of a delivery driver named Carlos earlier in the week, and that while they did let him go because they had no reason to hold him, he wouldn’t say if they’ve cleared him yet.
The questions about the family come following reports that Cioni, who is married to Annie Guthrie, was being examined as a possible suspect, though the sheriff’s office later denied the report and claimed they hadn’t publicly identified anyone.
However, Nanos was said to be withholding information from the FBI, and causing difficulties in the case by insisting DNA evidence be processed at a specific lab instead of Quantico in Virginia.
He later refuted the claims.
Nancy has now been missing for 13 days, with alleged random notes sent to media outlets asking for money in exchange for her, but deadlines for that have since passed.
The released footage from her doorbell camera captured a man in a ski mask standing outside her front door while wearing a backpack and gloves, with a gun holstered around his waist.
The FBI has since offered a reward of $100,000 for any information related to Nancy’s whereabouts or anything identifying her captors.
