Freddie Mercury is often assumed to be the richest member of Queen, but it turns out there are actually three members of the band who have a higher net worth than the late frontman

If you were to estimate the net worths of Queen’s band members, chances are you’d put late frontman Freddie Mercury at the top.

But that assumption isn’t entirely correct. In fact, there are three members of the lineup who are wealthier than Freddie.

Freddie passed away at just 45 years old in November 1991 due to AIDS-related complications, and left behind a heart-breaking note, having been diagnosed in 1987. Throughout his career, he accumulated an impressive net worth of $50 million, earning from chart-toppers like Bohemian Rhapsody and Somebody to Love, as well as from his two solo albums. Sitting below Freddie in terms of wealth is Adam Lambert, who became part of the band in 2011 following his runner-up finish on the 2009 season of American Idol.

Adam, who has also pursued acting, appearing in series such as Glee and Pretty Little Liars, has an estimated net worth of $45 million, which is $5 million less than Freddie’s wealth at the time of his passing.

Lambert wasn’t the initial frontman to fill Freddie’s role. Paul Rodgers was regarded as the first semi-permanent lead singer after Freddie when he joined in 2004, and has accumulated a net worth of approximately $14 million.

Beyond that, the fortunes grow substantially larger. In third place, surpassing Freddie, is bassist John Deacon, who has amassed a fortune of $180 million despite stepping away from music in 1997, reports the Express.

He penned hits such as Another One Bites the Dust and I Want to Break Free, from which he continues to collect royalties. Roger Taylor claims the second position with an estimated fortune of $250 million, based on Celebrity Net Worth figures.

The star is known for his costly passion for collecting high-end vehicles, which includes a 1979 Aston Martin V8 and a Porsche Panamera.

Guitarist Brian May leads the wealth rankings with a net worth of $260 million. Alongside his music career, he operates a guitar company and is celebrated for writing the anthem We Will Rock You.

Brian’s career is still powering on. However, there might be a comeback on the horizon. He recently revealed the band is “having conversations.”

And, while he doesn’t think a tour is coming up, he wouldn’t immediately say no to a Las Vegas residency. In fact, he believes a show at the Sphere would be “stupendous.”

“I’m very keen on the Sphere. It’s got my mind working. I sat there watching the Eagles, thinking, ‘We should do this. The stuff that we could bring to this would be stupendous,” he told Rolling Stone.
