Nagpur: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday accused the Congress of pursuing “appeasement politics” and linked such approaches to what he called “historical mistakes”, while replying to a media query on Telangana govt’s reported move to enhance reservations for Muslims.“Whenever Congress resorts to appeasement politics, it divides society. This happened in 1947 and such tendencies continue even today. Such an approach historically harmed the country and would not yield political dividends. If this is being done for votes, it will not benefit them,” the CM said while responding to a media query in Nagpur.Fadnavis’ remarks came amid reports that the Telangana govt, led by chief minister Revanth Reddy, is working towards expanding reservations for Muslims by including certain groups within the Backward Classes category, alongside running economic empowerment schemes for minority communities through state-backed financial support programmes.Without naming any specific decision of the Telangana govt, Fadnavis framed his comments in the context of national political history. “The Congress still did not learn any lessons from it.
