Radcliffe, himself a musician, waxed lyrical about his love for the Island and blossoming relationships with singer-songwriter Paul Armfield, whom he hopes to share a stage with at one of Medina Bookshop’s upcoming events.

For over 45 minutes, I quizzed one of my heroes on his life, career, and musical influences, for my podcast Beyond the Title.

Radcliffe was very impressed by the rising folk scene and creative influences on the Island and is excited to return later this year.

The late John Hannam devoted his life to bringing a slice of entertainment to the community by interviewing famous people in the iconic John Hannam Meets.

These brilliant interviews featured household names discussing their connections and experiences with the Isle of Wight.

However, over the last few years, thanks to the worldwide popularity of Wet Leg and the continued success of the Isle of Wight Festival, the Island is no longer a passive haven for culture.

It’s a thriving community!

When I started Beyond The Title in 2016, I was adamant not to make it location-specific, to risk limiting myself to a geographical area.

To me, asking about specific areas automatically reduces the audience who will be interested.

As a journalist, you need to know why questions are relevant and allow those subjects to come naturally as opposed to purposefully shoehorning an Isle of Wight reference in.

However, the fact that I live on the Island is often a useful icebreaker in finding a common ground between me and my guests and seems to be something that people are interested in.

This is a technique that I’m never afraid to implement when appropriate and it’s incredible just how many celebrities have a real love for the Island.

This October shall mark a decade of Beyond The Title and I’ve been thinking of how I can mark it in an appropriate way.

First, I contemplated doing a show in London with a number of my celebrity contacts and began to research iconic haunts such as The Bedford in Balham or The Museum of Comedy in Bloomsbury.

However, then it occurred to me that I have such enormous support from the Island that it would be a shame not to celebrate with everyone here.

Maybe Radcliffe was right, there is a creative energy on the Island.

And what better to mark this landmark than to have a special occasion in the place where I call home.

On Friday, October 23, I shall be taking to the stage at the Medina 35 Lodge in Cowes alongside my friend Paul Armfield and a host of stars as we celebrate ten years of Beyond The Title.

However, the irony is that despite a long tradition of household names coming to the Island, it’s now time for the residents of the Island to think beyond the Solent.

Britain is my oyster!
