In a major push for environmental sustainability, the Delhi Forest Department has launched its expansive Green Action Plan for 2026-27. This initiative aims to transform the urban landscape by planting over 7.19 lakh saplings across the city’s southern and western forest areas, with a budget allocation of over Rs 56.46 crore.
Senior officials have detailed proposals for multiple locations, focusing on native species to ensure long-term ecological health. Key projects include Maidan Garhi, Dera lands, and regions across Tughlakabad, Devli, and Bhatti, involving several lakh trees and shrubs.
The Southern and Central Ridges will also see significant afforestation, aiming to create sustainable forest ecosystems rather than just adding greenery. The comprehensive plan integrates plantation, maintenance, and protective measures through tenders for efficient execution.
