India and Kyrgyzstan have commenced their 13th joint special forces exercise, known as ‘KHANJAR,’ in Assam. This annual training event, which alternates between the two nations, began at the Missamari Army base and will continue until February 17.

The Indian contingent, consisting of 20 personnel from the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), is participating alongside an equal number of troops from Kyrgyzstan’s ILBRIS Special Forces Brigade. The exercise aims to share expertise in counter-terrorism and special operations within urban and mountainous terrains.

According to Defence PRO Lt Col Mahender Rawat, ‘KHANJAR’ also aims to strengthen defense ties and counter shared threats such as international terrorism and extremism, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to regional peace and security.
