According to the latest Economic Survey presented to the Bihar state assembly, 2,547 people lost their lives in various disasters during 2024-25. The figure rose from 2,140 deaths recorded in the previous year. Drowning was the leading cause, claiming 2,039 lives.

Lightning strikes accounted for 305 fatalities, an increase from 242 the year before. Additionally, fire-related incidents resulted in 143 deaths, while heatwave conditions led to 34 casualties as compared to 12 in 2023-24.
