The 2026 Grammy Awards featured multiple unforgettable moments as music stars gathered in Los Angeles, from Cher’s awkward presenting mix-up to emotional tributes

The Grammys delivered plenty of drama and memorable moments this year as music’s biggest stars gathered for the annual celebration. Kendrick Lamar dominated the evening, claiming the most victories for the second consecutive year, while Bad Bunny did well for himself too as he made a major dig at ICE during his acceptance speech.

Billie Eilish claimed the Song of the Year award for her track Wildflower, while Kendrick and SZA secured Record of the Year for their collaboration Luther.

Bad Bunny took home Album of the Year for his release, Debí Tirar Más Foto, and Olivia Dean was crowned Best New Artist.

Here’s a breakdown of some of the most memorable moments from the Grammy Awards, held in Los Angeles.

Cher’s mishap

The evening concluded with an embarrassing moment as Cher took the stage after receiving her Lifetime Achievement Award. The iconic performer was being honored with the prestigious recognition, but her presenting duties took an unfortunate turn, reports the Mirror.

In a cringe-worthy yet amusing incident, she mistakenly declared the late Luther Vandross as the recipient of an award meant for Kendrick Lamar. While presenting the Record of the Year trophy to Kendrick for his work with SZA, Cher made the uncomfortable mistake when referencing the track, which includes a sample from Vandross’ song If This World Were Mine.

Cher announced: “And the Grammy goes to … Oh! They told me it was going to be on a prompter. Oh, the Grammy goes to Luther Vandross. Oh Kendrick, no Kendrick Lamar!” She seemed to whisper: “I’m so sorry” as Kendrick and SZA made their way to the stage.

In his acceptance speech, Kendrick said: “This is what music is about. Luther Vandross, this, this is special for me. I gotta take my time. It’s one of my favourite artists of all time, and they granted us the privilege to do our version of this.

“When we got that clearance, I promise you, we definitely all dropped a tear, because we know how much him and Cheryl Lynn poured into that record. And being able to put our vocals of it, it proves that we were somewhat worthy.”

More ‘naked’ dresses

A year after Bianca Censori made waves appearing naked on the Grammys carpet with husband Kanye West, singer Chappel Roan and model Heidi Klum appeared determined to grab attention this year with their bold fashion choices.

Heidi, 52, posed for photographers on the Los Angeles red carpet last night wearing an eye-catching plastic form-fitting dress. The gown was fastened at the side and featured sculpted breast and bottom shapes.

Surprised fans rushed to social media to discuss the outfit, with one posting: “What’s Heidi Klum wearing at the Grammys?” while another commented: “I just saw the video of Heidi arriving at the Grammys. WTF she was wearing, she was not able to even walk properly.”

Meanwhile, Pink Pony Club singer Chappel made her own statement on the red carpet, going topless in a nipple ring gown. The daring look prompted fans to question ‘Is this even legal?’

Trump swipe

Grammys host Trevor Noah wasted no time taking a sharp jab at Donald Trump and Nicki Minaj’s peculiar connection during his opening monologue. The comedian and host cracked a joke about Nicki’s recent backing of the former US president.

Drawing applause from the audience, he quipped: “Nicki Minaj is not here, she is not here, she is still at the White House with Donald Trump discussing very important issues, actually.

In an impersonation of the president, he joked: “‘Nicki, I have the biggest ass, I have it, everybody’s saying it Nicki, I know they say to you, but it’s me, wop, wop, wop, look at it, look at it, baby.'”.

Noah also referenced the release of the Epstein files. He said: “The one and only Ms Lauryn Hill will be performing on that stage tonight, which is insane when you think about it, because the last time Lauryn Hill performed at the Grammys was in 1999, you understand how long ago that was? Back in 1999, the president had had a sex scandal, people thought computers were about to destroy the world, and (P) Diddy was arrested. Boy, how times have changed.”

Trump has since threatened to sue Noah for his remarks. In a tirade, he posted: “The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable! CBS is lucky not to have this garbage litter their airwaves any longer ..

“Noah, a total loser, better get his facts straight, and get them straight fast. It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty.”

Technical difficulties

For Ordinary singer Alex Warren, technical problems plagued his performance. The artist was visibly battling with the audio in his in-ear monitors.

Annoyed by the situation, he removed one of his in-ears while performing and subsequently shared a video on social media revealing what he was hearing during his set.

He captioned: “This would only happen to me,” along with a clip playing back what was coming through his in-ears. His post received supportive responses from fellow musicians.

Ryan Tedder commented: “U still killed it man- I knew it was happening the MOMENT it started… I’ve been there, experienced it, u crushed it,” while Lauren Spencer Smith responded: “It’s not about what went wrong it’s about how well you handled it for me, you sounded AMAZE and I’m confident it won’t be your last Grammys performance.”

Justin’s unusual comeback

Justin Bieber made his highly anticipated return to the stage, appearing in his underwear and without a shirt. The artist was back at the Grammys following a four-year absence, but his wardrobe selection left audiences confused.

He delivered his new track Yukon accompanied by a looping guitar and drum sample, while his wife Hailey Bieber became emotional as she watched proudly from the crowd and supported him enthusiastically. Justin last took the stage at the Grammys in 2022.

Reacting to his unconventional attire this time, one critic remarked: “Justin this is the Grammys and not the beach… just embarrassing.”

Another chimed in: “He’s dressed like this at the Grammys? ? So lazy.”

Heartfelt homage

Viewers – and those in attendance – were moved to tears during a touching tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne. Sharon, Jack and Kelly appeared visibly moved as their spouse and father was celebrated at the music ceremony, six months following his passing.

A touching moment unfolded when Yungblud honored Ozzy after claiming Best Rock Performance for his rendition of the beloved song Changes from what turned out to be Ozzy’s final concert last year.

“To grow up loving an idol , who helps you figure out your identity, not only as a musician, but also a man, is something I really grateful for. But to then get to know them and honour them at their final show and receive this [his award] is something I am struggling to comprehend, we f*****g love you Ozzy,” he declared.

“The last time I saw Ozzy Osbourne, he asked me if there was anything he could do for me, and that the music was enough. God bless Ozzy Osbourne and god bless f*****g rock music!”

Sabrina overlooked

The performer may have delivered her chart-topper Manchild at the Grammys last night, but she walked away empty-handed from the glitzy ceremony. The artist was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year as well as Album of the Year.

However, she came up empty-handed in these categories, as Kendrick Lamar claimed Record of the Year, Billie Eilish took home Song of the Year, and Bad Bunny captured the Album of the Year prize.

Olivia Dean makes a statement

British pop sensation Olivia Dean has urged for immigrants to be honored after claiming the best new artist trophy at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The 26-year-old’s remarks followed artists’ demonstrations against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) personnel stationed in US cities during Sunday’s ceremony.

Getting visibly moved upon receiving the accolade, the London-native expressed: “Thank you, I never really imagined that I would be up here, let alone nominated, so thank you so much, I just want to say that an artist is really nothing without their team.

“Emily, my best friend, my manager, we’ve been doing this for 10 years, so this is for you too, and my family. I guess I want to say, I’m up here as a granddaughter of an immigrant, I wouldn’t be here (if it was not for immigration).

“Yeah, I’m a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated, so yeah, we’re nothing without each other. Thank you so much, I love you, thank you so much.”
