Hollywood star Tom Cruise has moved out of his swanky apartment in London’s high-end Knightsbridge after a violent daylight robbery on a store close to his building

Tom Cruise has abandoned his $48 million apartment in the UK after deciding the swanky area had become too dangerous to live in.

The property, in the Knightsbridge district of London, was located close to where a gang of attackers on motorbikes raided a Rolex store near to Tom’s apartment building. The thieves brandished machetes to scare off security guards trying to stop them after they rammed the shop on the bikes.

Tom, 63, has reportedly been left feeling the area has “declined” recently, leading to his decision to leave. The Bucherer Rolex Boutique was attacked with the assailants using with a large sledge hammer, two small claw hammers and a centre point tool used for smashing thick glass to gain access.

They stole around 20 watches in the raid which took place in broad daylight last week, with the assault lasting three minutes before they fled the scene on their bikes. A source close to the Hollywood star told Daily Mail, “The over aggressive attack on the store below cemented the lack of security surrounding the multi-million pound flats where Cruise lives.

“He often loved to take a walk around the area but it seems like Knightsbridge is becoming less safe by the week. He just felt the area has declined in the past year or two.”

Tom was known to enjoy going for early morning runs in Hyde Park, which is located directly across the road from his lavish apartment block.

Staff were reportedly seen removing boxes of Tom’s possessions from the property following his unexpected departure. A source shared, “Tom loved London. He loved where he lived, he would get up and go for run around Hyde Park in the mornings.

“He loved walking in the local area but he also really, really enjoyed jumping in a helicopter at Battersea Heliport and flying off into the quintessentially British countryside. It all happened very quickly, it was a surprise to the staff at the building where his penthouse is.”

They continued, “It’s most strange. The UK became both his professional headquarters and private playground, with discrete dates, tightly-guarded movements and late-night arrivals. England became far more than just a filming base.”

The swanky Knightsbridge and Belgravia area has been plagued by gangs on mopeds for several years now, with themlooking to target tourists and the rich.

London’s Met Police statistics show 295 offences were committed in Knightsbridge and Belgravia in November 2025, with around a third occurring close to the iconic Harrods department store. Other stores in the area have also been ram raided and looted.

Meanwhile, last year 24-year-old Blue Stevens was stabbed to death near luxury hotel The Park Tower Knightsbridge, his killer has not been caught. His mother has accused London’s Mayor, Sadiq Khan, of “celebrating” London’s falling homicide rates while her “beautiful boy lies in his grave.”
