Catherine O’Hara appeared to predict how she would die in a resurfaced interview from 13 years ago where she confirmed how she hoped she would eventually pass away
Catherine O’Hara eerily predicted her death when she gave a witty answer to the question of how she wanted to die.
The actress passed away on Friday at the age of 71 after what was described as a “brief illness.” Catherine was rushed to hospital after a call to the emergency services in Los Angeles where she was described as having “difficulty breathing.”
Her official cause of death has not been confirmed, with the only explanation given as a “brief illness,” although reports suggest in the past she said she had cardiac inversus, or dextrocardia with situs inversus. Now, a resurfaced chat with the Home Alone star from an interview 13 years ago saw her confess how she would most like to die.

She answered the famous Proust questionnaire for Vanity Fair back in 2013 and at the time admitted she wanted to die, “Laughing, surrounded by my old grandchildren, who are telling me to ‘let go, already, Grandma!'”
In the same questionnaire Catherine, who is survived by her husband Bo Welch and sons Matthew and Luke, was asked to name “the greatest love of your life” to which she replied, “My family.”
A Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman told the Daily Mail of Catherine’s emergency call, “At 4:48 am we responded to a request for medical aid to that address and transported an approximately 70-year-old female in serious condition.”
Heartfelt tributes have flooded in for Catherine from entertainment industry figures, including actor Justin Theroux – who also appeared in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. He expressed, “Catherine, you will be so missed.”
Macaulay Culkin, who played Catherine’s son Kevin in Home Alone, wrote, “Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you but I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later.”
Michael Keaton, her co-star from Beetlejuice, posted, “We go back before the first Beetlejuice. She’s been my pretend wife, my pretend nemesis and my real life, true friend. This one hurts. Man am I gonna miss her.”
Her The Studio co-star Rogen also paid tribute to her writing on Instagram,”Really don’t know what to say… I told O’Hara when I first met her I thought she was the funniest person I’d ever had the pleasure of watching on screen.
“Home Alone was the movie that made me want to make movies. Getting to work with her was a true honour. She was hysterical, kind, intuitive, generous… she made me want to make our show good enough to be worthy of her presence in it. This is just devastating. We’re all lucky we got to live in a world with her in it.”
She was set to begin work on the second season of The studio in mid-January but couldn’t make it due to “personal matters.” The acclaimed comedy show has already garnered multiple accolades for its debut season, including Emmy and Golden Globe nods for Catherine.
