MA Stadium, Parade Turf to Host Season of 80 Pro Matches; Aim to Build Talent Pipeline for Nationals ; Officials

 JAMMU, JAN 28 (KNS) ; The winter capital is set to witness a major sporting revival as the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), in partnership with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC), announced the launch of two premier leagues—the YSS-JKSC Football Premier League and the YSS-JKSC Cricket League—in the coming season.

Officials told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) the leagues aim to reignite competitive spirit and crowd engagement in Jammu’s sporting arena, with football matches scheduled at the Synthetic Turf Football Ground, Parade, and cricket to be played at the MA Stadium.

A senior official at JKSC told KNS the initiative is designed to boost grassroots sports and provide a structured platform for local talent.

“The YSS-JKSC Cricket and Football Premier League Tournaments 2025-26 will significantly contribute to the revival of professional tournaments in Jammu,” he said.

Highlighting a focus on homegrown players, the official told KNS, clarified that only permanent residents of Jammu Division would be eligible, though cricket teams can include up to five out-station players.

“The goal is to give Jammu-based athletes ample competitive exposure,” he said.

To ensure professionalism, organising committees have been formed comprising former national and international players, referees, coaches and club owners. AIFF-accredited referees and BCCI-certified umpires will officiate the matches.

The JKSC will provide logistical support including refreshments, trophies, branding and medical facilities. Grand opening and closing ceremonies have also been planned to enhance the profile of the events.

Officials anticipate large turnouts at both venues, hoping the leagues will serve as a talent pipeline for athletes aiming for national and international recognition. (KNS)
