RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Palm Beach County officials are highlighting a significant decline in violent crime, announcing a 41 percent reduction in homicides over the past five years.
According to the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission’s (CJC) Law Enforcement Planning Council (LEPC), the decrease from 2021 to 2025 marks a major milestone in public safety and crime reduction efforts across the county.
Officials credit the drop to continued collaboration among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, along with partnerships involving prosecutors, community organizations and residents.
“This reduction in homicides represents the dedication, professionalism and strategic coordination of our law enforcement partners,” said CJC Executive Director Angelique Pickett. “It also demonstrates the impact of data-driven policing, targeted violence-prevention initiatives and meaningful community engagement.”

The LEPC identified several key factors contributing to the decline, including enhanced intelligence sharing between agencies, focused deterrence and targeted enforcement strategies, expanded community-based violence prevention programs, proactive patrols and investigations, and continued investment in officer training and resources.
Despite the progress, law enforcement leaders stress that work remains.
“Every life matters,” said LEPC Chair and Riviera Beach Police Chief Michael Coleman. “While a 41 percent reduction is meaningful, our commitment remains steadfast to further reducing violent crime and ensuring the safety of every resident and visitor in Palm Beach County.”
The LEPC also thanked law enforcement officers, community partners and residents, saying their cooperation and trust have played a critical role in improving public safety throughout the county.
