Carpe diem is Laura Fox’s motto, so it was a no-brainer when opportunities like Ireland’s Fittest Family and Dancing with the Stars came up.

Her mindset was partially influenced by grief, after the RTÉ 2FM star sadly lost a string of people close to her ‘quite suddenly’.

Speaking to the RTÉ Guide, the DWTS host said: ‘Not to make it morbid, but I’ve lost a lot of people close to me and all quite suddenly: my Grandad, my uncle, my good friend Alan who worked in 2FM.

‘They all just dropped overnight,’ Laura recalled. ‘And then last year, my poor dog Thor, which was such a shock, I went to work in the morning, and he was fine, and when I came home, he wasn’t.’

Laura’s beloved dog, Thor, had been in her and her fiancé, Brian’s, lives for five years before he suddenly passed away in July 2025.

‘But these things have given me a great perspective and outlook on life because I’ve seen how quickly things can change,’ Laura added.

‘If you’re not enjoying things when they’re happening in front of you, you’re just never going to live life to its full potential, and that’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.’

Despite being grief-stricken about the loss of life, Laura admitted she feels ‘really lucky’ that it was able to give her some perspective.

Laura previously told VIP magazine: ‘I look at my life all the time and go, “You are doing exactly what you always wanted to do, and everything is pretty sweet for you right now”, so I really live in the moment, and I enjoy it.’
