New Netflix documentary follows celebrity chef’s £20m investment in five businesses at London’s 22 Bishopsgate over nine months

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has disclosed that the pressure surrounding his latest business venture “scared” him, as he opens up about his “most ambitious project” in a trailer for his forthcoming Netflix series.

The six-part documentary tracks the Michelin-starred chef across nine months leading up to “his biggest restaurant venture to date” – launching three restaurants, a bar and a cooking academy at London’s 22 Bishopsgate.

In a trailer unveiled by Netflix, the 59 year old voices concerns over the project, which he has “so much riding on”. Ramsay, 58, recently pumped £20 million into establishing the five businesses within the 62-storey tower.

In the trailer, he states: “There is so much riding on this reputationally, financially. You have to be better than good. It scares the sh** out of me.” He continues: “This thing is going to take balls of steel.”

In the trailer, Ramsay quips about calling time on his career following the project, remarking: “I think I may retire after Bishopsgate.” The celebrity also addresses the strain of launching five businesses beneath one roof, declaring: “If 22 Bishopgate was to fail, I’m f*****.”

The tower houses Ramsay’s Lucky Cat, which has claimed the title of London’s highest restaurant, alongside the Lucky Cat Bar, a rooftop terrace operating until 3am, serving cocktails and late-night entertainment.

The chef has additionally unveiled Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, described as an intimate 12-seat chef’s table experience, plus modern European eatery Bread Street Kitchen & Bar. He’s also launched the Gordon Ramsay Academy, which welcomes members of the public and offers courses in mixology and culinary skills.

The trailer features Ramsay discussing his formative years, looking back on his upbringing in Northamptonshire.

He says: “I grew up on a council estate in Daventry. I still remember my school uniform, having holes in my second-hand trousers. There’s always that needle of fear you’re going to lose it. I’ve lost (Michelin) stars, closed multiple restaurants through my career. That’s what puts fuel in my tank.”

The series will additionally showcase the chef attempting to juggle his professional obligations with his roles as a husband and father of six. His wife of nearly three decades, Tana Ramsay, appears in the trailer describing her husband as “someone who dreams big”.

The pair share six children, including Tilly, who features in the trailer saying: “The way dad is in the kitchen, in a stressful environment, he reacts for perfection.”

The trailer also includes footage of his second-eldest daughter, Holly Ramsay Peaty, who works as a model. The 26 year old married Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty at an extravagant ceremony at Bath Abbey in December.

The nuptials took place following reports of a family rift which, according to the Daily Mail, intensified after Peaty’s mother Caroline wasn’t invited to Holly’s hen do. Ramsay has built his reputation on his explosive personality as a TV chef in programmes including Hell’s Kitchen and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.

The new docuseries launches on Netflix from February 18.
