Maharashtra government has signed 19 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth ₹14.50 lakh crore on the first day of World Economic Forum in Davos in Switzerland. The investments are in the fields of green energy, food processing, steel manufacturing, IT-ITES, data centres, EV-automobile, shipbuilding and digital infrastructure. A government press release stated that it will lead to 15 lakh job opportunities in the State. The MoUs were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

“Over the next two days in Davos, MoUs are expected in sectors such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Digital Infrastructure, FinTech, Logistics, Infrastructure, Shipbuilding, EVs and Renewable Energy,” it said further.

Meanwhile, the Congress has accused Mr Fadnavis of signing an MoU with a company owned by a Cabinet Minister in his government. “The Chief Minister of Maharashtra goes to Davos and signs a MoU with a company belonging to a minister in his Cabinet. Did he have to sign it in Switzerland or is there some hidden meaning in this bizarre event?” Congress leader Jairam Ramesh posted on his social media handle on X.

This was with reference to an MoU worth ₹1 Lakh Crore with Lodha Developers in the IT, Data Centers’ sector. The government said it will bring in employment opportunities for 1.5 lakh youth.

The Chief Minister’s office said that the issue has been raised in the past as well, and that such MoUs are signed in Davos as the FDI partners of the Indian companies are situated abroad.
