Meghan Markle’s thoughtful present for Tan France during her Netflix cooking show has gone viral as one fan said the negativity toward the royal would “never stick.”

The Duchess of Sussex gave the Queer Eye fashion expert a masala dabba, a traditional Indian spice box, as a gift during filming for With Love, Meghan, her lifestyle series.

A clip of the moment, from the third episode of season two, went newly viral after it was viewed 1.4 million times and liked 206,000 times. An on-screen caption reads: “This is why the hate toward HRH Princess Meghan will never stick.”

Why It Matters

Meghan has seen a dramatic decline in her popularity, particularly in the U.K., where data released by pollster YouGov showed she has just reached her lowest-ever ratings based on fieldwork done over January 8 and 9. A representative sample of 2,103 U.K. adults showed 19 percent liked her compared with 66 percent who disliked her, giving a net approval rating of minus 47.

Needless to say, she does still have a fan base though, as the significant engagement with the TikTok post illustrates.

What to Know

The post begins with France asking “Can I open this?” before unwrapping the present, which was covered in pink and green fabric, tied with a bouquet of flowers in the middle of the knot.

France then gasped before saying, “It’s a vintage masala dabba,” and leaning in to hug Meghan.

“I mean, they said you were coming and you love spices and I had this thing that I had bought,” Meghan said. “I also want to be able to share it with someone who would appreciate it.”

“This is the kind of thing that your parents pass down to you,” France replied. “I’ve never had a masala dabba. Thank you so much. That actually has given me goosebumps. That is so beautiful. I will pass this down to my children, that’s how beautiful that is. Thank you so much.”

“That is actually the nicest gift you could ever have gotten me,” he added.

What People Are Saying

Another, liked 17,000 times, read: “No one can make me hate her.”

A third fan wrote, “He was genuinely shocked and appreciative,” while a fourth said: “Dad, where did you get this? It was a gift from a Princess!”
