Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava drank tap water in Bhagirathpura on Friday, trying to assure residents about its safety following a water contamination crisis.
By late December, the contaminated water had resulted in numerous fatalities due to vomiting and diarrhoea, making national headlines. Bhargava’s actions come after local authorities restored clean water to 30% of the affected area following repairs and testing.
While Bhargava asserted the water’s purity, varying reports on casualties highlight ongoing health concerns, with state reports acknowledging fewer deaths than the residents claim. Financial compensation has been allotted to families of victims, amid further investigations.
