A Dhaka court today directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a further investigation into a case filed over the killing of Inqilab Moncho’s spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order after granting a no-confidence petition, said a sub-inspector working at the court.

Earlier in the day, Inqilab Moncho’s Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed the petition with the court, rejecting the probe report submitted by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

In the no-confidence petition, Abdullah said the submitted charge sheet overlooked the main planners of the killing. He also alleged negligence in the collection of witness testimony and evidence.

“During the investigation, the investigator showed reluctance to appropriately use modern methods and technology. So a no-confidence petition was filed with the aim of ensuring a fair and proper investigation by conducting further probe to identify the true masterminds, planners and accomplices behind the murder,” the complainant added.

On December 12 last year, Hadi, an independent aspirant for the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot in Paltan area while campaigning. He died on December 18 while undergoing treatment in Singapore.

On December 14, Abdullah filed an attempted murder case with Paltan Model Police Station against Faisal Karim Masud and several unnamed individuals, which was later converted into a murder case.

On January 6 this year, investigation officer Faisal Ahmed, a DB inspector, submitted a charge sheet in the case before the court, naming prime accused Faisal, four of his family members and 12 others.
