On Thursday, Punjab and Haryana were gripped by a biting cold wave, as several areas reported temperatures plummeting to freezing levels. Hisar emerged as the coldest town, recording a bone-chilling minimum of 0.2 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal, the weather office reported.

Cold conditions persisted, with Hisar having experienced near-freezing temperatures in recent years, including minus 1.3 on January 17, 2023, and minus 1.2 degrees Celsius on January 1, 2021. Visibility in many regions of Haryana and neighboring Punjab was further reduced by dense fog.

Across Haryana, Narnaul recorded 1.5 degrees Celsius, with Nuh, Gurugram, and other cities also experiencing below-normal temperatures. Meanwhile, in Punjab, Bathinda saw lows of 1.6 degrees Celsius, underscoring the severity of the cold wave gripping the region.
