Met Gala: Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner arrive
Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner arrive at the Met Gala red carpet.
Kendall Jenner says she is an open book when it comes to love, in case anyone was wondering.
The supermodel and reality-TV star got candid on online speculation about her sexuality during an interview on the “In Your Dreams with Owen Thiele” podcast Friday, Jan. 9.
“There’s the whole side of the internet that thinks I’m a lesbian,” Jenner, 30, told Thiele. “I think that there’s this whole narrative that I’m hiding this thing. I’ve seen really [messed] up things that are like, ‘It’s bad for business,’ and I’m like, ‘What? How?’ I don’t understand it.”
Jenner, who described her current love life as her “me era,” has been romantically linked to several A-list men over the years, including pop singer Harry Styles, NBA player Devin Booker and Latin superstar Bad Bunny.
“You want to know what really bothers me? How mean people are about it,” Jenner said of the speculation. “It’s not with a welcoming arm of like, ‘Hey, if you were, yes, come join.’ It’s not kind.”
While Jenner acknowledged that “coming out is not an easy thing for anybody,” she said her sexuality would not be a secret if she was part of the LGBTQ community.
“Knowing myself, I think at this point in my life I’d be out if I was,” Jenner added. “I’d have no problem being that.”
Jenner isn’t the first celebrity to endure speculation about their sexuality. Pop stars Shawn Mendes and Khalid, as well as “Heartstopper” actor Kit Connor, have faced similar scrutiny. Experts say people should never feel obligated to come out, especially when their safety is at risk.
“The nature of celebrity journalism is to glean as much information as possible about celebrities we arguably know too well,” Melvin Williams, associate professor of communication and media studies at Pace University, previously told USA TODAY.
“Still, celebrities and non-celebrities do not owe the public a confirmation or explanation about their sexual orientations, and disclosures should remain a matter of choice.”
Regardless of what people think about her sexuality, Jenner is just going to do her thing.
“All’s to say, as of today, I am not [gay],” Jenner said with a laugh. “I don’t think I will be, but I’m not closing doors to experiences in life.”
