Health Update: Health Update: Med Center Health hosts annual Health & Wellness Expo – What Experts Say– What Experts Say.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Med Center Health’s annual Health & Wellness Expo brought together dozens of vendors offering information and resources focused on prevention, wellness and overall health.
The January event featured free health screenings and educational booths, allowing attendees to move from station to station learning about available services and making care and education accessible in one place.
“We do this every January because it’s a great time when people are thinking about their New Year’s intentions, their health, to get that started,” Community Wellness Director Sarah Widener said. “So, we’ve got kind of a one-stop shop today with tons of screenings, tons of health information. We’ve got demos, so we’ve got a lot going on here today.”
This year, the expo introduced Med Center Health’s first-ever teaching kitchen, where a chef and registered dietitian worked together to demonstrate how healthy eating can be both practical and approachable.
“Food is really important. We all deserve to eat healthy food and afford healthy food,” Widener said. “So, this is a great opportunity for people to learn how to cook a meal.”
The hands-on demonstration focused on making homemade dressings and building healthy salads while breaking down the vitamins and nutrients found in each ingredient and explaining their importance for the body.
Organizers said the goal is to give people tools they can use at home, reinforcing that small changes can make a big difference.
“The fact that people come out and want this information is huge because they’re taking, you have to take your health in your own hands because nobody else is going to do it for you,” Widener said.
As Med Center Health approaches its 100th year, the Health & Wellness Expo highlights the organization’s continued commitment to community care.
