Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) is planning to have dedicated artificial intelligence (AI) institutes in Uttar Pradesh. The initiative is backed by a massive investment of ₹350 crore.
“The move comes under the initiative to train more than one lakh students in AI skills and embed AI applications across technical courses,” said university officials.

AKTU Sets Up Regional AI Institutes With Big Funding
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University will develop two regional AI-focused engineering institutes, one on its Lucknow campus and another at the UP Institute of Design in Noida.
The project has been allocated a budget of ₹350 crore, which will support infrastructure, teaching and research.
“The institute aims to build a skilled workforce for future technology demands. The university expects to reach over one lakh students through courses, certification programmes and AI integration in core engineering and allied disciplines”

AI Curriculum and Shared Infrastructure Plans
AKTU plans to integrate AI applications into all its academic programmes. This includes everything ranging from traditional engineering to other specialised courses like structural engineering.
“The plan is to let graduates have practical experience with AI tools and problem-solving methods that are industry and research-relevant,” said the university leadership.
To overcome hardware constraints faced by affiliated colleges, AKTU will operate a central AI laboratory and allow remote access to high-performance computing resources via virtual private network (VPN) links.
Faculty and students will use shared graphics processing units (GPUs) to support learning, research and start-up development.
