Master Wellness volunteers needed to promote health education in Panola County

Published 12:00 pm Thursday, December 25, 2025

In the United States, 90% of the $3.8 trillion spent on healthcare is related to preventable chronic conditions – things like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and many others. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, many of these health challenges can be reduced- or even prevented- through education and simple lifestyle changes.

That’s where the Master Wellness Volunteers (MWVs) come in.

Be A Part of Something BIG

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Panola County is seeking community members for its Master Wellness Volunteer Program. Master Wellness Volunteers (MWVs) receive 40 hours of training on health, nutrition and food safety and are then empowered to provide outreach and education, helping reduce the burden of chronic conditions in our communities.

Not a health professional? Not a problem! We welcome participation from anyone interested in promoting health and wellness: college students, employees, retirees – anyone!

What Do Volunteers Do?

Master Wellness Volunteers serve in a variety of ways:

  • Giving presentations to local organizations
  • Assisting with food demos and preparation
  • Supporting community programs
  • Identifying new needs and opportunities in their own neighborhoods

Because MWVs come from diverse backgrounds, they help us reach new audiences, explore new ideas, and create local solutions that truly fit Panola County.

Training Details

In January, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will convene a statewide training for Master Wellness Volunteers…and you don’t even have to leave Panola County. Two in-person sessions will be held at the Panola County Sabine Annex (January 21 and March 25); the rest of the training will be conducted online at your own pace. Registration Fee is $75 (or $25 for college students). If cost is a barrier, scholarships may be available!
