Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Tuesday (December 23, 2025) wrote to former Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, alleging that the AAP government’s inaction in the last 11 years is primarily responsible for the severe condition of air pollution in the National Capital
There was no immediate reaction from AAP.
In the 15-page letter, Mr. Saxena also said, “You are trying to unnecessarily bog down (BJP) government of 10 months, which is trying to do everything possible to undo your wrongs, for petty political gains.”
Mr. Saxena said despite a crushing defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, Mr. Kejriwal and his party have refused to learn from the results, saying that the AAP continues to “indulge in petty politics and spreading lies over the critical issues concerning the people of Delhi”.
He wrote, “all that your government did was blame the then Punjab Government and the Government of India. It never cared to take any step to curb dust generation that is the majorly responsible for air pollution in Delhi.”
“The inaction of the AAP government in the last 11 years is primarily responsible for such severe conditions of air pollution in the national capital.”
Mr. Saxena also alleged the AAP government discontinued the practice of holding weekly cabinet meetings. Key policy and administrative decisions were taken through circulation, leaving no room for any discussion or deliberation, he said, adding that this reflected the government’s insensitivity towards the people of Delhi.
Mr. Saxena also blamed the Yamuna river’s condition on the previous AAP government. “Yamuna and the drains of Delhi similarly suffered due to your apathy for 11 years. Year after year, claims of cleaning the Yamuna fell flat,” he said.
